Esther Assiogbon

Esther moved from the country of Togo with her family to the United States when she was a toddler. Her family taught her to embrace her culture, traditions and language, however when she was in elementary and middle school she was teased by kids because of her uniqueness. When Esther started high school, she decided to use her negative experiences to create a safe space for herself and other girls that had experienced similar things. With the help of another schoolmate, she created an African dance team of about 30 girls. The dance team became so popular that it was invited to perform in a variety of functions such as the Martin Luther King Jr. Parade in her city. Ether was accepted to her dream school, Texas Tech.
